Abstract submission guidelines

Abstracts for poster / oral presentation are welcomed for the annual RA-UK poster competition. The submitted work should be related to the science or clinical practice of regional anaesthesia or perioperative ultrasound.

Suitable abstract submission categories include

  • Quality Improvement / Service development

  • Audit / Survey

  • Original Research

  • Case Reports / Series

Abstract Timeline

  • Abstract submission opens - 1st Jan 2019 00.00

  • Abstract submission closes - 31st March 2019 23.59

  • Abstract review - 31st March 2019 to 14th April 2019

  • Confirmation of abstract acceptance - 15th April 2019

All abstracts will be judged by an expert panel, using a standardised scoring system.


Successful candidates will be notified by email on 15th April 2019.  Please note that it will not be possible to offer individual feedback on abstracts that are not accepted.


The highest scoring abstract will be invited to give an oral presentation at the ASM,

although submitters may choose to only have their abstract considered for poster presentation if they wish.


Presenting authors are expected to register for the conference.


You will be notified of the shortlisting decision on 15th April 2019.

Trainee Prizes

1st place: ESRA Congress registration fee and additional costs up to £500 + 1 year RAUK membership.

2nd place: RAUK Annual Meeting registration fee and additional costs up to £250 + 1 year RAUK membership.

3rd place: £250 + 1 year RAUK membership

Submission Guidelines


Enter a title for your abstract in less than 20 words.

The abstract submission system will allow a 250-word abstract excluding title, author details and references.


The text of the abstract should contain the following headings; introduction, methods, results and discussion.  Case reports should follow introduction, case or cases, discussion.


A statement must be included indicating ethical approval where applicable.


Use a blank line to separate paragraphs.


References should be in Vancouver style.


Enter details of each author.


Choose a category that best represents your abstract.


Up to two figures and/or tables may also be included.


Disclose any financial support or conflict of interest where applicable.

Poster instructions

Posters for the meeting should be printed in a portrait format on A0 paper. 

Presenting authors are expected to attend the conference. 

RA-UK have arranged an exclusive deal for poster printing with scienceposters.co.uk.


Displaying an Abstract is a fantastic opportunity, but transporting your Abstract to the venue can difficult. 

Science Posters will print the abstracts on Fabric A0 paper and post them to the venue. You can either pick it up at registration, or the Events Team can put them up the night prior.


The cost of this is only £40 including postage.
