Fleur Roberts has been an Obstetric Anaesthetist at Jessop Wing Maternity unit in Sheffield for 11 years. She is currently the Clinical lead for Obstetric Anaesthesia. Her interests include the Management of the Obstetric Difficult airway and her collaborative work from Sheffield contributed to the OAA/DAS difficult airway guidelines. She also lead the creation and implementation of an Emergency Obstetrics GA airway checklist with the acronym I AM HAPPY in since 2013. In doing so has significantly improved the safety of mothers undergoing emergency GA’s in Sheffield reducing the incidence of obstetric difficult airway problems and failed intubation. She has also led and run the development of a bespoke Obstetric Difficult Airway course called the SODA course which is one of a kind in the UK since 2014. This body of work was recognised as Highly Commended in the Health Service Journal Patient Safety Awards in November 2018.
She has campaigned for improved obstetric patient blood management and led radical changes to the management of major haemorrhage in Sheffield including near patient coagulation testing, in doing so has successfully reduced the transfusion of unnecessary blood and blood products.
Finally she has an interest in the use of Lumbar ultrasound in Obstetrics and was Principal Investigator in a local research study looking at the effect of obesity on the accuracy of spinal insertion level. She is looking forward to encouraging you to pick up an ultrasound probe and use it as part of your Obstetric anaesthetists skill set!
Fleur also loves running with her faithful dog Abbey in the hills of the Peak District and would encourage anyone visiting Sheffield to get out into the amazing countryside that is on the doorstep.
