Dr Johnston works in Belfast as a Consultant Anaesthetist with a specialist interest in Regional Anaesthesia and peri-operative research. He trained in Northern Ireland and completed his training with a regional anaesthesia fellowship year in London Health Sciences Centre, Ontario. He is the secretary for the Northern Ireland Regional Anaesthesia Society and has involvement in the local organisation of regional anaesthesia and cadaveric courses. He works as a demonstrator and lecturer for Queen’s University Anatomy Masters programme.
He is an invited speaker at national and international conferences. Clinically he has been active in implementing block rooms for both orthopaedic and upper limb trauma lists as well as developing a rib fracture analgesia service. He is currently working as the PI in local thoracic and orthopaedic peri-operative trials.
