Abstract submission guidelines

Abstracts for poster / oral presentation are welcomed for the annual RA-UK poster competition. The submitted work should be related to the science or clinical practice of regional anaesthesia or perioperative ultrasound.

Abstract submission deadline extended until 23:59 on the 7th April. 

Suitable abstract submission categories include

  • Quality Improvement / Service development

  • Audit / Survey

  • Original Research

  • Case Reports / Series

Abstract Timeline

  • Abstract submission opens -  5th February, 2021, 00:00

  • Abstract submission closes - 7th April, 2021, 23:59

  • Abstract review - 7th April 2021 to 12th April 2021

  • Confirmation of abstract acceptance - 16th April 2021

All abstracts will be judged by an expert panel, using a standardised scoring system.


Successful candidates will be notified by email on 16th April 2021. Please note that it will not be possible to offer individual feedback on abstracts that are not accepted.


The highest scoring abstract will be invited to give an oral presentation virtually at the ASM, although submitters may choose to only have their abstract considered for poster presentation if they wish.


Presenting authors are expected to register for the conference.


You will be notified of the shortlisting decision on 16th April 2021.

Trainee Prizes


New for this year - the top 3 abstracts will also be published in the British Journal Of Anaesthesia!

1st place: ESRA Congress registration fee and additional costs up to £500 + 1 year RAUK membership.

2nd place: RAUK Annual Meeting registration fee and additional costs up to £250 + 1 year RAUK membership.

3rd place: £250 + 1 year RAUK membership

Submission Guidelines


Enter a title for your abstract in less than 20 words.

The abstract submission system will allow a 250-word abstract excluding title, author details and references.


The text of the abstract should contain the following headings; introduction, methods, results and discussion.  Case reports should follow introduction, case or cases, discussion.


A statement must be included indicating ethical approval where applicable.


Use a blank line to separate paragraphs.


References should be in Vancouver style.


Enter details of each author.


Choose a category that best represents your abstract.


Up to two figures and/or tables may also be included.


Disclose any financial support or conflict of interest where applicable.
